Completely His

Paul asks a question in 1 Corinthians 6:19-20 that reframes everything: "Do you not know that your bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own; you were bought at a price. Therefore honor God with your bodies." You are not your own. These words are either terrifying or liberating, depending on your perspective. For a person who still believes they are the ultimate authority over their own life, this is a confrontation. For a person who has been trying to manage everything alone, it is the greatest relief imaginable. You are not your own. You belong to God — bought with the blood of Jesus at an incomprehensible price. Your life is not a lease you manage independently. It is a stewardship you hold on behalf of the One who owns it. This changes the questions you ask. Instead of "What do I want?" the primary question becomes "What does the One who owns me ask of me?" Instead of "What serves my comfort?" it becomes "What honors my Creator?" The body as a temple is a remarkable image. In the Old Testament, the temple was where God's presence dwelled — the most sacred space in Israel. You are now that space. The Spirit of God has taken up residence in you. That is not a small thing. It is the most astonishing thing imaginable — and it carries with it the invitation to live accordingly. To care for the temple. To present it holy. To live in such a way that the space where God lives is treated with reverence, gratitude, and love. You are completely His. Live like it.

1 Corinthians 6:19-20

"Do you not know that your bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own; you were bought at a price. Therefore honor God with your bodies."

Today's Prayer

Lord, I acknowledge that I am not my own — I am Yours. Help me to live every day with the awareness that the Holy Spirit dwells in me. Help me to honor You with my body, my choices, and my whole life. Amen.

Today's Action Step

Choose one practical way to honor God with your body this week — better sleep, improved nutrition, reducing a harmful habit, or dedicating your physical energy to service. Do it as an act of worship.
