Finding Your True North

Every compass has a true north — a fixed point that does not move regardless of where you are standing. Without it, even the most experienced navigator can get lost. Proverbs 3:5-6 describes something similar for your life: "Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight." This is not a passive promise. It requires something from you — trust. And not just surface trust, but trust with all your heart. Not some of your heart, the parts that feel comfortable surrendering. All of it. We live in a world overloaded with voices telling us which direction to go. Social media, cultural trends, personal ambition, the opinions of people we respect — all of them compete for the role of true north in our lives. And most of them are not bad things individually. But none of them are fixed. None of them are reliable enough to navigate by when life gets complicated. God alone is that fixed point. He does not shift based on public opinion or cultural change. His wisdom does not expire, and His understanding of your life — including the parts you have not told anyone — is complete. The phrase "lean not on your own understanding" is not an insult to your intelligence. It is an acknowledgment of your limits. There are things about your future, your relationships, your calling that you simply cannot see from where you stand. God can. Submitting your ways to Him means bringing your plans to Him before finalizing them, seeking His input on major decisions, and remaining open to redirection even when your own plan seems perfectly good. When you do, He promises to make your paths straight. Not necessarily easy — but clear, purposeful, and aligned with His best for your life. Start July by re-calibrating your compass. Make God your true north again.

Proverbs 3:5-6

"Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight."

Today's Prayer

Lord, I confess that I lean on my own understanding more than I lean on You. Today I choose to trust You fully — with my decisions, my direction, and my future. Align my paths with Your will, and give me the humility to follow where You lead. Amen.

Today's Action Step

Before making any significant decision today, pause and ask: 'Lord, what do You think about this?' Write down what comes to mind.
