Finishing What God Started
Paul wrote Philippians from prison — a man who had every reason to feel his best days were behind him. Instead he wrote one of the most forward-looking statements in Scripture: "But one thing I do: Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead, I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus." The posture Paul describes is athletic. He is not coasting. He is pressing. He is straining toward what is ahead. And critically, he has made a decision about what is behind: he is forgetting it. Not pretending it did not happen. Not suppressing it or denying the pain of it. But choosing not to let it define the direction of his forward movement. What is behind you? Past failures, missed opportunities, seasons where your faith was dry, choices you wish you had made differently. Paul says those things do not have to determine what is ahead of you. The goal is still there. The calling is still active. The prize — being fully conformed to Christ, hearing "well done," living in eternal relationship with God — is still worth pressing toward. Finishing well does not require a perfect start or a perfect middle. It requires a decision in the second half to keep moving — to press on, to lean forward, to refuse to let the past steal the future. Whatever this year has looked like so far, the race is still running. The prize is still ahead. And God, who began the work, is still calling you forward. Press on.
Philippians 3:13-14
"Brothers and sisters, I do not consider myself yet to have taken hold of it. But one thing I do: Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead, I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus."
Today's Prayer
Lord, help me to press on — to fix my eyes ahead rather than behind. Where I have stumbled, lift me up. Where I have lost momentum, reignite my passion. I choose today to pursue the goal You have called me toward. The best is still ahead. Amen.
Today's Action Step
Identify one area where you have given up forward movement because of past failure. Write down one step you can take this week to press on in that area.

Hope.
Healing.
Empowerment.
