Fixing Your Spiritual Compass
Psalm 119:105 is a verse most people first encountered on a bookmark or a refrigerator magnet: "Your word is a lamp for my feet, a light for my path." But the image deserves a closer look. In the ancient world, travelers walked by lamplight — not floodlights. A lamp illuminated the next few steps, not the entire road ahead. This was not a design flaw. It required trust. You could only see as far as the light reached, and you had to keep walking to see what came next. This is exactly how God's Word functions in our lives. Scripture does not typically hand us a twenty-year plan. It gives us enough light for the next step. And as we take that step in faithfulness, the light shifts to illuminate the step after that. The Bible is the clearest, most reliable compass a person can have for navigating life. It addresses money, relationships, decision-making, suffering, purpose, identity, and everything in between — not always with specific answers to specific situations, but always with wisdom, principle, and the character of God who does not change. But a compass only helps if you use it. Many Christians own a Bible but do not read it regularly. They admire it from a distance — trusting in its importance without actually letting it direct their lives. The spiritual discipline of daily Scripture reading is not legalism. It is calibration. It is how you keep your spiritual compass aligned with true north. If you feel directionally lost today, come back to the Word. Open it with the question, "Lord, what do You want to say to me today?" And then read with expectation. The light is already on.

Today's Prayer
Lord, thank You for giving me Your Word as a guide. Help me to open it with fresh eyes today and let it speak into the specific places where I need direction. May Your Word be the compass that keeps me aligned with You in every season. Amen.
