I Am a Child of God
John 1:12 contains one of the most remarkable gifts ever offered to human beings: "Yet to all who did receive him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God." The word "right" here could also be translated "authority" or "power." This is not a suggestion or a hope — it is a declaration of legal standing. When you receive Jesus, you are not just forgiven; you are adopted. You become a child of God — not metaphorically, but actually. The Apostle John was so staggered by this reality that in his first letter he wrote, "See what great love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called children of God! And that is what we are!" He adds the emphasis: and that is what we are! It is not just a title. It is a reality. Being a child of God means you have access to the Father. You can come to Him at any time, about anything, without an appointment or a perfect track record. Children do not earn the right to talk to their parents — they simply go to them because they belong to them. You belong to God. It also means you share in the family inheritance. Romans 8 says we are heirs of God and co-heirs with Christ. What belongs to Him becomes available to you — His peace, His wisdom, His strength, His future. Many people are living as spiritual orphans — feeling disconnected from God, uncertain of their standing, unsure whether they are really accepted. But if you have received Christ, the orphan spirit has no right over you. You have a Father. You have a home. You have a family. Today, let this identity be the lens through which you see everything else. You are not a mistake. You are not forgotten. You are not on probation. You are a child of God — fully known, fully loved, fully accepted.

Today's Prayer
Father, thank You for adopting me through Jesus. Help me to live today as Your child — not striving to earn Your love but resting in it. Let this identity shape how I see myself and how I treat others. Remind me when I forget: I am a child of the living God. Amen.
Today's Action Step
Write 'I am a child of God — John 1:12' on a card and read it aloud when you wake up and before you sleep tonight.
