I Am Enough

Paul had a problem he desperately wanted God to fix. He called it a thorn in the flesh — and though we do not know exactly what it was, we know it was painful, persistent, and deeply unwanted. He prayed three times for it to be removed. And God said no. But God did not leave him without an answer. He said, "My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness." This is one of the most counterintuitive statements in all of Scripture. We live in a world that celebrates strength, achievement, and the appearance of having it all together. Weakness is something to hide or overcome. But God says His power is most clearly seen in our weakness. The word "sufficient" in the original language means more than just barely enough. It means fully adequate — completely satisfying, lacking nothing. God's grace does not run thin when life gets hard. It is enough — and then some. What does this mean for you? It means that on the days when you feel like you are not enough — not smart enough, not strong enough, not faithful enough, not put-together enough — God's grace fills the gap. You do not have to be enough. He is enough. Many people exhaust themselves trying to perform for God, to earn His favor, or to prove their worth. But the gospel announces something radical: you are not the source of your own sufficiency. God is. Your weakness is not a disqualification from God's purposes. In fact, it is often the very place where He does His most remarkable work. Paul went on to say, "When I am weak, then I am strong." That is not a contradiction — it is a revelation. The less we trust in ourselves, the more room we make for God to move. Today, stop trying to be enough. Let Him be enough for you. Rest in His grace, which is always full, always available, and always more than sufficient for whatever you face.

2 Corinthians 12:9

"But he said to me, 'My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.' Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ's power may rest on me."

Today's Prayer

Father, I confess I often try to be enough on my own — and I fall short every time. Thank You that Your grace doesn't depend on my performance. Fill the places in me that feel empty or inadequate, and let Your strength be the one that carries me today. I trust You to be enough. Amen.

Today's Action Step

Identify one area where you have been striving in your own strength. Write it down and then write next to it: 'God's grace is sufficient here.'
