I Am Not in Competition
Paul includes a pointed warning in Galatians 5:26 that feels startlingly relevant today: "Let us not become conceited, provoking and envying each other." In the age of social media, comparison has become a constant companion. We scroll through curated highlights of other people's lives and measure our ordinary moments against their best ones. We see someone else's success and feel it somehow diminishes our own. We watch someone else get the recognition we wanted, and something inside us goes sour. This is not a new human problem — it is as old as Cain and Abel. But it is a problem that the Holy Spirit calls us to resist. The language Paul uses is telling. He says "let us not become" — meaning this is a choice, a posture we can avoid with intentionality. Conceit and envy do not usually announce themselves. They creep in quietly through comparison. And once they settle in, they create an internal poverty — a sense that what we have is not enough because someone else has more. But here is the truth: God did not design you to run someone else's race. He designed you to run yours. Your calling, your gifts, your season, your path — none of it looks exactly like anyone else's, because you are not anyone else. When you understand your unique purpose and identity in Christ, comparison loses its power. Someone else's blessing stops feeling like a threat and starts feeling like evidence that God is faithful — which means He is faithful to you too. Joy in others' success is actually a mark of spiritual health. It means you are secure enough in your own identity that you do not need to diminish theirs. Today, choose to celebrate someone else. It is one of the most powerful ways to break the grip of comparison.
Galatians 5:26
"Let us not become conceited, provoking and envying each other."
Today's Prayer
Lord, forgive me for the times I have measured myself against others and come away either proud or discouraged. Help me to run my own race with faithfulness and celebrate the people around me with genuine joy. Guard my heart from envy and fill it instead with love. Amen.
Today's Action Step
Find one person today — someone whose success might have triggered envy — and genuinely celebrate something in their life. Text them, comment on their post, or encourage them in person.

Hope.
Healing.
