I Am Visible

Matthew 5:15-16 follows Jesus's declaration that His followers are the light of the world with a practical observation: "Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven." There is a temptation that affects many sincere believers: the temptation to hide. Not to hide their faith exactly, but to stay comfortable, to blend in, to avoid the vulnerability of being seen. It feels safer. It avoids conflict. It does not require anything of us. But Jesus says that hiding your light defeats the entire purpose. The lamp is lit in order to give light. If you cover it, the house stays dark — not because light does not exist, but because it is not being allowed to do its job. Being visible as a follower of Jesus does not mean being loud, preachy, or showy. It means living with enough authenticity that who you are in private is consistent with who you are in public. It means letting your faith be part of your real life — present in your conversations, evident in your priorities, visible in how you treat people. Notice what Jesus says the goal is: that people may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven. The goal of your visibility is not applause for you — it is worship for God. When you live generously, your Father is glorified. When you forgive freely, your Father is glorified. When you love people nobody else is loving, your Father is glorified. You are not trying to build a personal brand. You are living in such a way that God's greatness gets the credit. Be visible. Be seen. Not for your sake — for His.

Matthew 5:15-16

"Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven."

Today's Prayer

Father, give me the courage to be visible — to live my faith out loud in the ordinary places of my life. Where I have been hiding, help me step out. Let everything I do point people to You, not to me. May my life make people curious about the God I serve. Amen.

Today's Action Step

Share one thing God has done in your life this week — with a friend, in a text, on social media, or in conversation. Be specific and let it glorify God.
