Ephesians 2:10 is a verse that should be read alongside its famous neighbor, Ephesians 2:8-9. We are saved by grace through faith — that is clear and precious. But verse 10 adds a crucial dimension: "For we are God's handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do." You are God's handiwork — His workmanship, His masterpiece. The Greek word used is poiema, from which we get the English word poem. You are God's poem — written with intention, care, and artistic purpose. And you were created not just for salvation, but for specific works that God prepared in advance. Before you were born, before you made a single decision, God was already preparing the good works that your life would involve. Your ministry opportunities, your moments of influence, the ways you will serve and love and build — none of it is improvised. It was prepared. This means your life is not an accident waiting to find meaning. You are already living inside of a prepared purpose. The invitation is not to create your purpose but to discover and step into the one that is already prepared for you. How do you discover it? By staying close to God. By paying attention to what moves your heart, what breaks your heart, and where your natural gifts intersect with the needs around you. By being faithful in small things and watching God open larger doors. By saying yes to the opportunities in front of you rather than waiting for some future, grander assignment. Live on purpose today. The good works God prepared for you include the ones right in front of you.
