Poured Into Others

Romans 15:1-2 describes a posture that runs directly counter to a self-centered life: "We who are strong ought to bear with the failings of the weak and not to please ourselves. Each of us should please our neighbors for their good, to build them up." Build them up. Pour into them. Use your strength, your resources, your capacity — not primarily for your own comfort and advancement, but for the good of the people around you. This is what it means to be poured into others. Think of the people in your life who have most shaped who you are — the mentor who gave their time, the friend who listened when you were falling apart, the teacher who believed in you before you believed in yourself. They poured into you. They spent themselves for your good. And the investment they made has shaped the person you are today. You have the opportunity to be that for someone else. There is someone in your circle right now who needs what you carry. Not necessarily financial resources — though that may be part of it. But your experience, your perspective, your time, your encouragement, your practical wisdom. You have something someone else needs. The poured-out life asks: Who am I pouring into? Not who am I impressing or performing for, but who is genuinely being built up by my presence in their life? This is the legacy that outlasts every achievement — not what you accumulated but who you built up along the way. Invest in people. Pour into them deliberately, generously, and with the long view. The return on that investment is eternal.

Romans 15:1-2

"We who are strong ought to bear with the failings of the weak and not to please ourselves. Each of us should please our neighbors for their good, to build them up."

Today's Prayer

Lord, help me to see the people around me through Your eyes — as investments, not interruptions. Show me who needs me to pour into them right now, and give me the time, the words, and the heart to do it well. Amen.

Today's Action Step

Identify one person in your life you could intentionally invest in. Reach out this week to schedule time with them — a lunch, a call, a coffee — with the specific intention of encouraging and building them up.
