The Mid-Year Reset

Lamentations 3:40 is a short verse that carries enormous wisdom: "Let us examine our ways and test them, and let us return to the Lord." The prophet Jeremiah wrote Lamentations in the aftermath of great loss and devastation. And even in that moment of grief and ruin, the impulse he records is not blame, not bitterness, not despair. It is self-examination. Let us look at our ways. Let us return to God. July puts us firmly in the middle of the year. Half of 2026 is behind us. Six months of days lived, decisions made, habits formed, and words spoken. It is a natural and healthy moment to pause, look back honestly, and realign before pressing forward. A mid-year reset is not about shame or condemnation. It is about honest evaluation — the kind that a good coach offers a team at halftime. What has been working? What has not? Where have I drifted from God's best? Where have I grown in ways I did not expect? The word "return" in this verse implies that we have moved. That we have wandered, at least a little. And wandering does not always look dramatic. It often looks like small, gradual drifts — a quiet time that gets crowded out, a habit that slowly becomes a priority, a relationship that pulls us in the wrong direction. Returning is always available to us. God never locks the door on repentance and re-alignment. The moment you turn back, He is already there. Let today be a reset point. Examine your ways honestly, bring what you find to God, and step into the second half of this year with renewed clarity and fresh direction.

Lamentations 3:40

"Let us examine our ways and test them, and let us return to the Lord."

Today's Prayer

Lord, I want to return to You fully. Show me where I have drifted and give me the courage to be honest about it. Thank You that returning is always possible and that You always receive me. Reset me for the second half of this year. Amen.

Today's Action Step

Take 15 minutes today for a personal mid-year review. Write answers to these three questions: What has God done in my life since January? Where have I drifted? What do I want the next six months to look like spiritually?
