The writer of Hebrews gives a practical definition of the kind of sacrifice that God delights in: "Through Jesus, therefore, let us continually offer to God a sacrifice of praise — the fruit of lips that openly profess his name. And do not forget to do good and to share with others, for with such sacrifices God is pleased." Two kinds of sacrifice are named here. First, the sacrifice of praise — words of gratitude and worship that overflow from a heart that truly knows what God has done. Second, doing good and sharing — tangible acts of love and generosity that extend the grace of God into the lives of people around us. These are the offerings that please God. Not the performance of religious ritual for its own sake. Not the appearance of devotion without the substance. But genuine praise from an honest heart and genuine love that shows up in people's lives in practical ways. The word "continually" in the verse is important. This is not a periodic offering — it is a lifestyle. A continuous outflow of worship and service that characterizes the rhythms of a poured-out life. And notice that both sacrifices flow "through Jesus." They are not things we muster up from our own reserves of goodwill. They are the overflow of a life connected to Christ — His praise flowing through our lips, His love flowing through our hands. Today, look for two things: one opportunity to offer genuine praise to God, and one opportunity to do good and share with someone who needs it. These small offerings, given consistently, build a life that God calls pleasing.
