Jesus said something simple that cuts to the heart of stewardship: "Whoever can be trusted with very little can also be trusted with much, and whoever is dishonest with very little will also be dishonest with much." Faithfulness in small things is the training ground for larger responsibilities. And this applies not just to money — though the context in Luke 16 is financial — but to every resource God places in our hands. Time is a resource. Relationships are a resource. Influence, skills, opportunities — all of it is entrusted to us by God, and all of it will be accounted for. A steward, in the biblical sense, is someone who manages what belongs to someone else. Everything you have belongs to God. Your home, your income, your career, your health, your children — these are resources God has entrusted to your care. And He is watching how you manage them. The question "Am I a trustworthy steward?" can feel overwhelming if you try to evaluate everything at once. But Jesus narrows it down beautifully: start with the very little. What has God given you right now, today, in this season? Are you faithful with it? Are you generous with your current resources? Are you managing your time with intentionality? Are you investing in your relationships? The person who is faithful with small things builds a track record of trustworthiness. And God consistently entrusts more to those who have proven they can be trusted. A poured-out life is a steward's life — one that holds everything with open hands, manages it for God's glory, and gives freely because everything was His to begin with.
