Tuning Your Heart to God

"Be still and know that I am God." Four words that carry a world of meaning: be still. In Hebrew, the word means to let go, to release, to stop striving. It is not passive emptiness — it is an active release of the grip we have on outcomes, control, and outcomes. And out of that stillness, we know — we come to a deep, settled awareness that God is God. In a noisy, fast-moving world, stillness has become one of the rarest and most countercultural spiritual practices. We are conditioned to fill silence. We reach for our phones in line at the grocery store. We play podcasts while we drive. We scroll social media the moment we wake up. And while none of these things are inherently harmful, the cumulative effect is a heart that has lost its ability to be still. When you cannot be still, you cannot hear. And when you cannot hear, you drift. Tuning your heart to God requires deliberate silence. It requires creating space where His voice is the loudest thing in the room — and that means turning down the volume on everything else. Think of it like tuning an instrument. A violin does not tune itself. The musician has to take time to adjust each string, listen carefully, and bring everything into harmony. Our hearts work the same way. Without regular moments of stillness before God, we drift out of tune — our priorities drift, our peace fades, our spiritual sensitivity dulls. But in the stillness, something remarkable happens. You know He is God — not as a theological fact, but as a present and living reality. And that knowing changes everything about how you move through the rest of your day. Be still today.

Psalm 46:10

"He says, 'Be still, and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth.'"

Today's Prayer

Father, help me to be still — really still — before You today. Quiet the noise of my life and of my mind, and help me to simply know that You are God. In that stillness, tune my heart back to Yours. Amen.

Today's Action Step

Find five minutes of genuine silence today — no devices, no background noise. Sit with Psalm 46:10 and breathe slowly. Let stillness be your worship.
