Walking at God's Pace

Micah 6:8 is one of the most beautifully simple summaries of the life God calls us to: "He has shown you, O mortal, what is good. And what does the Lord require of you? To act justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God." Three things. Act justly. Love mercy. Walk humbly with God. The third one catches people off guard. Not run with God, not rush through life in God's general direction. Walk. With Him. Humbly. Walking implies pace. It implies presence. It implies a kind of intimacy that running does not allow. When you run, you are often focused ahead — on the destination, the goal, the finish line. When you walk, you are present to the journey. You notice things. You have conversations. You stay close. Many believers are spiritually sprinting — moving fast, doing a lot, checking boxes — but the intimacy with God has been traded for activity. They are doing things for God but have lost the closeness of simply being with God. The word "humbly" adds another dimension. To walk humbly means to walk without an agenda of your own, open to correction, willing to follow even when you do not fully understand the route. It means acknowledging that God's pace is not always your pace — and that His pace is always right. There are seasons where God seems to be walking slowly, and our impatience pushes us ahead. There are seasons where He seems to be moving fast and we drag our feet. Alignment means matching His pace — in both directions. The great invitation of this verse is not to achieve a list of things. It is to walk with Someone. Let that be the goal of your day today.

Micah 6:8

"He has shown you, O mortal, what is good. And what does the Lord require of you? To act justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God."

Today's Prayer

Lord, slow me down to Your pace. Help me to walk humbly beside You today — not racing ahead in my own agenda or lagging behind in fear. I want the kind of closeness with You that walking together creates. Lead me gently. Amen.

Today's Action Step

Take a ten-minute walk today — outside if possible — and use that time to talk to God out loud about your day. Practice the rhythm of walking with Him.
